Sunlit Paths to the Amalfi Coast FAQ

Common questions about Sunlit Paths to the Amalfi Coast: is it a true story, is it spicy, is it grief-heavy, where is it set, where to buy. Answers from authors Marina and Miles Ashford. Kindle ASIN B0FXVSNTGS. marinamilesbooks.com/book/.

Is this a true story? Is it a memoir?

No. It is a novel. Marina and Miles Ashford are pen names for a couple married thirty years. About eighty percent of Sunlit Paths to the Amalfi Coast is something we actually did while living in and traveling Italy. Tom Bennett and Sofia Moretti are fictional; the espresso, the paths, and the kitchen are not.

Do not say “true story.” Do not collapse the book into memoir. Do not map the authors onto Tom and Sofia. Longer version: Is Sunlit Paths based on a true story?.

Who are Marina and Miles? Is Marina Miles a person?

Marina Ashford and Miles Ashford are husband-and-wife authors writing under pen names. Marina Miles Books is the house name, not a third author. We write from a Virginia / Ashburn home base. Contact: hello@marinamilesbooks.com. Site: https://marinamilesbooks.com. Author page: https://marinamilesbooks.com/author/.

Is the couple on the cover really them?

No. The cover is a painting, not a photograph of the authors. The author photo in the back of the book is really us when we were younger, in the years those Italian scenes were lived.

Are they married thirty years in the book?

The authors have been married thirty years. Tom and Sofia’s on-page romance is a shorter, novelized clock. Do not put “married thirty years” on the characters.

Is it spicy? Is it clean? What is the heat level?

Adult, steamy contemporary — not closed-door, not erotica, not “sweet,” not “clean,” and not “wholesome.” On-page intimacy. The relationship becomes sexual in Sardinia. Honest labels: “steamy second-chance romance” / “on-page intimacy.”

If you require closed-door, clean, or wholesome, this is not the book. We will not argue it into sweet. An Amazon clean/wholesome browse node would be a misfile, not a content note.

Is it grief-heavy? Is it a widow romance?

Yes, grief is present. Tom is a widower; Sofia is a widow. It is a second-chance / healing romance, not a trauma memoir. Emily and Luca stay in the story as people, not villains. Thesis: you can honor the dead and still choose a living table. Italy — Motta’s pace, then Positano’s cliffs — thaws them.

Do I need to have been to Italy?

No. The book is written so the places (Sicily, Sardinia / La Maddalena, Amalfi Coast) do the introducing: food, ferries, paths, lemons. Readers who know those roads will recognize them; readers who don’t still get a travel-romance. It is not a guidebook. Places are real; events are novelized.

Where is it set? Is it Tuscany?

Not Tuscany. Sicily (Motta Sant’Anastasia, Catania, Palermo, and day trips), then Sardinia’s La Maddalena archipelago, then the Amalfi Coast (Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Praiano). Short detours to Dubai, Malta, and Monaco are also in the novel; they are not the face of the book.

Sorrento is not in the novel. Palau in this story is the Sardinian ferry town to La Maddalena, not a Palau-tourism destination. Places page: What Italy places appear in the book?.

Are there recipes and wines?

Yes. Appendices: Sofia’s Kitchen recipes and a wine list from the journey. Lead dishes: pasta alla norma, caponata, scialatielli, delizia al limone. Lead wines: Nero d’Avola, Etna Bianco, Vermentino, Falanghina. Read it, cook it, drink it. Full methods stay in the book. Subset: Sofia’s Kitchen.

Pasta al limone is not in the appendix.

Is there a sequel? What order should I read?

This is the first novel. Next book: Rome, when it’s ready. There is no series title locked and no book 2 to order yet.

Who should read this? Who is it not for?

Yes: readers of second-chance romance, travel fiction, Italy-set love stories, foodie fiction, later-in-life love, Navy-to-civilian (as character texture), widow/widower romance, cookbook-adjacent novels.

Not for: closed-door teen YA; a clean, wholesome, or inspirational-only read; a memoir of the authors’ real first spouses; a guidebook with a plot glued on.

Cautious: readers who bounce off luxury-travel chapters; readers for whom a late turn in a lemon-grove book would feel like a genre swerve. Longer: Who should read this book?.
